Finally! Someone has thought about teachers and provided a service to them, us, for free!!! Of course they are using teachers – I think because we like to talk – to promote their own services with little spent out of the marketing budget. Bravo to them for their work.
This week, many have blogged about wikis and blogs. Having had 682(?) last spring, I learned the differences between the two then. I even created a wiki for the final project in that class. It was easy to set-up and provide access to for my students, although no one ever posted anything at the time.
As I was scrolling through the blogs in my reader I found this blog about free wikis for teachers. This was not just limited to teachers in the United States, but all over the world and the San Francisco based company is doing it again….giving away even more wikispaces free to teachers. The best part of this is that not only are the wikis ad-free, they can handle students working on the spaces. Here is the link for more information.
I like the idea of using both blogs and wikis in the classroom. I could create a blog that my students could read and respond to, while a wiki would provide the students with opportunities to research and submit their findings about a topic. I think that this would also work better with my eighth grade classes than my seventh graders who are concentrating on portfolios. I am open to suggestions about how to incorporate blogs and wikis for both grades.
Thank you for sharing. I really like finding websites that allow teachers free resources that they can use for their students. This looks like a very useful resource. I bookmarked it to go back to later.
