Hi Adelliott,
“some online classes are very impersonal, but that could be on the fault of the learner and the teacher. If the learner doesn’t communicate with the teacher and the teacher doesn’t provide feedback to the learner then very little learning takes place (or at least very little). That can also occur in a face-to-face class.” So true.

I don’t believe that I’ve ever been the overachiever type, but I enjoy success. Even though you don’t receive any comments that has no reflection on your ability to process the material. FTI: I feel like you do sometimes.

This is true. I personally believe that AR has taken out some of the joy of reading, or reading for enjoyment, because of the pressure to earn so many points…that and students know how to get those points regardless of it they have read the book. One semester (during undergrad work) I had to read 35 middle/high school level books in the 16 week time period..I still have trouble today picking up a book just to read for enjoyment…and I used to truly love to read all of the time (until I was told I had to do it.)

“not too hard, not too easy” is an interesting criteria for a skill level assessment of ZPD.

My only real criticism is that there’s more to reading enjoyment than reading level to avoid boredom and frustration.

I think his inclusion of video games was great. When I taught Social Studies, I always thought that SimCity would be a great simulation for teaching students about geography. Many years ago Carmen Sandiego was another good game.

I appreciate this thread. Working in non-digital environments with the travel industry I come at the topic from work embedded more in the original Universal Design (UD) than a UDL sphere. This insight into the details of Accessible Builds is new to me.
